Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Cook to join our kitchen team. The ideal candidate should be skilled in meal preparation, maintaining kitchen hygiene, and adhering to food safety standards. This role requires excellent multitasking abilities and efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of meals following established recipes and menu standards.
- Ensure all ingredients are fresh, properly stored, and meet quality standards.
- Assist in making sauces, marinades, dressings, and other essential meal components.
- Cook proteins, vegetables, and other food items using grilling, frying, roasting, steaming, and sautéing techniques.
- Monitor cooking times and temperatures to maintain food safety standards.
- Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure meal components are ready for plating simultaneously.
- Follow food safety and hygiene guidelines at all times.
- Manage proper stock rotation (FIFO – First In, First Out) to prevent food waste.
- Track ingredient usage and report shortages for timely restocking.
- Operate and maintain kitchen equipment such as grills, ovens, fryers, and stoves.
- Prepare mise en place (prepping ingredients) before meal service.
- Ensure meals are plated attractively and meet quality standards before serving.
- Work with the head chef and team to create new menu items and improve existing recipes.
- Assist in cooking for special events, catering, and private dining services.
- Handle special dietary requests and food allergies with care.
- Label and date prepped foods to prevent spoilage.
- Report kitchen maintenance or repair needs.
- Follow all kitchen safety procedures to prevent accidents.
- Participate in training and skill development programs.
- Foster teamwork and maintain a professional attitude in the kitchen.
- Train new kitchen staff on cooking techniques, food safety, and kitchen efficiency.
- Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure timely food service.
- Adapt to menu changes and new kitchen processes as needed.
- Comply with health and food safety regulations at all times.
Requirements
- Culinary school training or certification (preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Cook, Line Cook, or in a similar kitchen role.
- Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, food preparation, and kitchen operations.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and consistency in food quality.
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Physical ability to stand for long hours and lift heavy kitchen supplies.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Salary
N150,000 – N200,000 Monthly.
