Overview
This role supports the NEST360 program, an initiative focused on improving newborn healthcare access and delivery in Nigeria. The Biomedical Engineering Officer will assist the BME Manager in maintaining and managing medical equipment in supported healthcare facilities to ensure high-quality care for newborns.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Management

• Assess and identify the equipment needs of partner health facilities
• Assist in the coordination and supervision of equipment installation and commissioning
• Monitor equipment performance and report findings to the NEST360 and facility technical teams
• Conduct periodic inspections to ensure safety and performance standards are met

Maintenance and Repair

• Develop preventive maintenance plans to reduce downtime and extend equipment lifespan
• Handle equipment repairs or coordinate with service vendors when necessary
• Keep accurate documentation of service records, maintenance logs, and calibration history

Training and Capacity Building

• Support the training of facility staff on proper equipment use, care, and troubleshooting
• Help facilitate workshops on safety, infection control, and technical handling of equipment

Quality Assurance

• Enforce protocols and ensure adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards
• Participate in audits and assessments to maintain high standards in equipment management

Collaboration and Communication

• Engage with manufacturers, suppliers, and technical professionals for updated knowledge
• Collaborate with facility teams, program managers, and stakeholders to solve challenges and drive improvements

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering or related field
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in biomedical equipment handling, preferably in healthcare or NGO sector
• Strong skills in installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance
• Knowledge of biomedical regulations and safety standards
• Effective communication, training, and team collaboration abilities
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
• Willingness to travel to remote or rural healthcare centers
