Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced:
Job title: Company Secretary / Head of Legal
Location: Yaba, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
This position acts as the primary adviser to the Board of Directors on governance and compliance matters. The role ensures legal and regulatory compliance across all subsidiaries, provides expert advice on business transactions, and manages contract negotiations, litigation oversight, and corporate governance processes. You will collaborate with key stakeholders across the Group to maintain strong legal integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and interpret legal documents such as contracts, service-level agreements, and transaction papers
- Provide timely and practical legal advice to leadership and business units on operational and strategic matters
- Conduct legal research and prepare opinions on commercial, operational, and regulatory issues
- Monitor laws and regulations to ensure full compliance across the Group
- Support regulatory filings, license renewals, and handle correspondence with regulatory bodies
- Implement compliance frameworks throughout the Group
- Manage litigation cases, liaise with external counsel, and maintain a litigation tracker to protect company interests
- Identify and assess legal risks, recommending appropriate mitigation strategies
- Contribute to risk reviews and audit processes requiring legal input
- Work closely with internal teams, external counsel, and regulators to resolve legal and compliance issues
- Assist with responding to legal and regulatory inquiries across subsidiaries
- Mentor and support the development of legal staff to build a strong compliance culture
Requirements
- Proven experience in a senior legal role within the financial services sector, especially with holding companies and their subsidiaries
- Minimum of 8 years post-call legal experience in financial services or related sectors
- Strong understanding of financial services regulations, corporate governance, and compliance practices
- Demonstrated ability to offer strategic legal counsel to senior executives
Salary Range
₦800,000 – ₦1,200,000 annually
