GPD works across local, state, and national levels to strengthen democracy, improve governance, and support community resilience through its multi-sectoral programs.

Role Overview
The Director of Programs will lead the design, implementation, and quality assurance of all GPD’s programs nationwide. This leadership role ensures that all initiatives deliver lasting, measurable impact and align with GPD’s mission. The successful candidate will oversee key thematic areas including gender equality, peacebuilding, democracy and governance, WASH, livelihoods, and environmental sustainability.
This position requires a visionary leader with a deep understanding of Nigeria’s development context and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams across various regions. The Director of Programs will work closely with partners, donors, and communities to build collaborations, mobilize resources, and drive excellence in program delivery.
Core Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Provide direction for the planning, coordination, and execution of all program strategies
- Represent GPD in stakeholder meetings, partnerships, and high-level advocacy engagements
- Act on behalf of the Executive Director when assigned
Program Oversight
- Lead program development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting across thematic areas
- Ensure timely delivery, donor compliance, and strong performance management across all projects
- Conduct program reviews and quality checks to improve outcomes
Resource Mobilization and Budget Management
- Collaborate with the Finance team to ensure effective budget planning and use
- Supervise fundraising efforts and oversee the development of competitive proposals
- Ensure teams understand and meet donor and partner requirements
Compliance and Team Development
- Enforce organizational and donor policies, safeguarding, and accountability frameworks
- Prepare and submit detailed program reports to the Executive Director, Board, and donors
- Support internal audits, evaluations, and learning to drive continuous improvement
Qualification and Experience
Education
- A Master’s Degree in International Development, Peace and Conflict Studies, Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Public Health, or a related field
- Additional certification in Program Management, M&E, Humanitarian Standards, or Organizational Leadership is an advantage
Experience
- At least 8 years of experience in the development or humanitarian sector managing diverse programs
- Minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership position with team management and budget oversight
- Strong experience in proposal writing, project design, and securing donor funding
- In-depth knowledge of GPD’s core program areas and successful leadership in cross-sectoral programming
- Proven ability to represent organizations in donor forums and national stakeholder engagements
