Role Overview
The Fabrication and Machine Shop Manager will oversee daily operations in the fabrication and machining workshops. The role includes supervising technical teams, ensuring equipment efficiency, maintaining quality standards, and keeping production on schedule. This position requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to manage both people and processes effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Plan, organize, and coordinate daily fabrication and machining tasks
- Allocate work to technicians, welders, machinists, and fabricators
- Track job progress to ensure timely and accurate completion
- Maintain compliance with engineering drawings and specifications
Machine and Equipment Management
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of workshop equipment such as lathes, milling machines, welding machines, and cutting tools
- Implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules
- Keep equipment running efficiently with minimal downtime
- Maintain accurate records for all machines and tools
Team Leadership
- Supervise and guide fabricators, welders, machinists, fitters, and apprentices
- Hold daily briefings and assign tasks
- Train and mentor staff to improve performance and technical skills
- Ensure adherence to company policies
Quality Assurance
- Verify that all fabricated and machined items meet required standards
- Inspect finished products before approval
- Work with the Quality Control team to resolve non-conformities
- Maintain accuracy and high-quality workmanship
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with HSE procedures
- Promote safe work practices and proper PPE usage
- Conduct safety checks, training, and hazard awareness activities
- Keep the workshop clean and well-organized
Inventory and Material Management
- Monitor usage of consumables, welding materials, gases, and machining supplies
- Request materials based on job needs
- Maintain stock levels for essential items
- Minimize waste and support cost control
Qualifications and Skills
- BA, BSc, or HND in Engineering or related field
- 5 to 7 years of experience in fabrication and machining environments
- Strong knowledge of workshop equipment and engineering drawings
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage teams and meet production timelines
Salary
Monthly salary ranges from ₦500,000 to ₦750,000.
