Job Summary

Hoop Telecoms is seeking a dynamic and proactive Field Support Engineer to provide hands-on technical support, installation, and maintenance services for our telecom infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining network performance, addressing field issues efficiently, and ensuring top-notch service delivery at client locations across Lagos.

Key Responsibilities

Radio Field Support Engineer (FSE):

  • Install, configure, and maintain microwave radio equipment, CPE routers, and switches.
  • Conduct site surveys and assess link feasibility (LoS, nLoS).
  • Maintain accurate documentation of field activities, service reports, and equipment status.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to microwave radio alignments, configurations, and connectivity.
  • Configuration of Mikrotik radios and routers, TPLink routers, Ubiquity devices, Ligowave radios, Cambium devices, etc.
  • Apply strong knowledge of wireless technology and resolve wireless issues effectively.
  • Perform regular site inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal uptime.
  • Collaborate with the Network Operations Center (NOC) for escalations and network status updates.
  • Ensure safety compliance with company protocols during field operations.
  • Assist with project rollouts and system upgrades.
  • Provide training to end-users or junior field technicians when required.

Fiber Field Support Engineer (FSE):

  • Install, manage, and maintain both aerial and underground fiber optic cables.
  • Oversee the installation and management of CPE routers and switches in customer installations.
  • Strong understanding of longhaul, shorthaul PTP, and PTMP fiber infrastructure.
  • Experienced with fiber optic tools such as splicing machines, OTDR, VFL, Light Source, and Power Meter.
  • Perform detailed technical site surveys and provide guidance on link feasibility (LoS, nLoS).
  • Address field challenges and ensure smooth operations in various localities.
  • Familiarity with Lagos streets (Mainland and Island) for efficient routing.
  • Manage fiber optic cable issues, configuration, and connectivity.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve fiber optic and networking issues efficiently.
  • Perform regular inspections to maintain optimal service uptime and quality.
  • Collaborate with NOC for troubleshooting and escalations.
  • Train junior technicians and end-users as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in field support within the telecom industry.
  • Proficiency in networking tools, diagnostic devices, and telecom systems.
  • Solid understanding of IP networking and telecom infrastructure.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and time management skills.
  • Willingness to travel across Lagos and work under various conditions.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in fiber optics installation and splicing.
  • Familiarity with wireless networks (Wi-Fi, LTE, Microwave).
  • Knowledge of telecom industry standards and safety protocols.
