Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled and committed Internal Auditor to join our Audit team. This role involves evaluating internal controls, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and identifying areas for improvement across financial and operational processes.
Key Responsibilities
Audit Planning and Execution
- Assist in creating and implementing risk-based annual audit plans
- Conduct financial, operational, and compliance audits
- Follow industry audit standards and internal methodologies
- Focus on audits in high-impact areas like revenue leakage, procurement, and inventory management
Risk Assessment and Control Evaluation
- Assess the strength of internal controls and identify gaps or risks
- Recommend process improvements and risk mitigation strategies
- Track and evaluate key performance indicators related to internal controls
Reporting and Communication
- Prepare clear and detailed audit reports
- Present findings and recommendations to management
- Ensure follow-up and implementation of corrective actions
Regulatory and Compliance Audits
- Ensure full compliance with Nigerian oil and gas regulations
- Conduct audits in line with the Petroleum Industry Act and other sector guidelines
- Liaise with regulatory bodies during statutory inspections
Fraud Detection and Prevention
- Investigate potential fraud or misuse of company resources
- Develop internal controls to reduce fraud risk
- Provide fraud prevention strategies and training
Continuous Improvement
- Stay current on industry trends, standards, and laws
- Contribute to process enhancements within the audit function
- Support internal audit training and awareness efforts
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
- Coordinate with departments including Finance, Legal, Procurement, and Operations
- Act as a contact point for external auditors and regulators
- Promote transparency and accountability throughout the company
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- ACA or ACCA certification is required
- CIA or CISA certification is an added advantage
- 3 to 5 years of audit experience, ideally in the oil and gas industry
- Knowledge of downstream operations and Nigerian regulatory frameworks
Key Skills
- Strong analytical and risk assessment abilities
- Attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and audit software
- Good understanding of IFRS, Nigerian tax laws, and oil and gas sector rules
- Excellent reporting and communication skills
- High ethical standards and discretion with sensitive data
