Role Overview
A leading upstream oil and gas exploration and production company is looking for a skilled Marine Operations Coordinator to manage all aspects of marine logistics that support offshore operations. This position ensures seamless coordination of marine activities, focusing on safety, compliance, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will serve as a key link between offshore execution and onshore planning.
Responsibilities
Marine Logistics Coordination
- Plan and manage all marine support vessels (PSVs, AHTS, DSVs, crew boats)
- Oversee daily marine logistics such as cargo delivery, personnel transfers, and equipment movement
- Maximize vessel utilization and reduce operational costs
Offshore Operations Support
- Act as the main contact for marine communication between offshore and onshore teams
- Coordinate marine support for drilling rigs, FPSOs, and production platforms
- Monitor weather forecasts and advise on operations accordingly
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure all activities meet HSE policies and marine regulations (DPR, NIMASA, IMO)
- Conduct vessel inspections and safety audits before mobilization
- Maintain safety management systems across marine operations
Contractor and Vendor Oversight
- Supervise marine service contractors and evaluate performance
- Verify vessel certifications and crew credentials
- Keep detailed records of fuel use, vessel performance, and contractor compliance
Emergency Response Coordination
- Develop and test marine emergency response plans
- Lead response efforts during marine incidents or emergencies
- Maintain up-to-date safety and emergency equipment records
Documentation and Reporting
- Prepare daily marine operation logs and reports
- Track and report marine KPIs such as vessel uptime and utilization
- Ensure proper documentation of permits, regulatory approvals, and operational records
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Science, Nautical Science, Maritime Management, or a related field
- STCW certification or similar marine qualification (preferred)
- Valid BOSIET / HUET certification
- Minimum of 8 years in marine operations, with at least 5 years in offshore oil and gas
- Deep understanding of support vessel operations and marine logistics
- Knowledge of Nigerian maritime laws and offshore conditions
Skills
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
- Clear and effective communication skills
- Proficiency in marine operations software and Microsoft Office
- Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly in high-stakes situations
- In-depth knowledge of offshore safety and emergency protocols
