Lafiya is focused on making contraceptive access a reality for communities that need it most. Through our network of female health professionals—our Lafiya Sisters—we provide trusted information and deliver contraceptives directly to women across hard-to-reach areas in northern Nigeria. Our mission is grounded in respect, dignity, and community connection.
We currently operate across four northern states with over 280 Lafiya Sisters and have supported more than 200,000 women. Alongside our fieldwork, we’re developing a supply chain to tackle national distribution challenges and collaborating with government partners to build sustainable financing for contraceptive access.

Position: Monitoring and Evaluation Fellow
Location: Abuja or Kano
Job Type: Full-time (6-month fellowship)
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Role Overview
This is a hands-on, immersive fellowship for someone who’s passionate about using data to drive real-world impact. You’ll take ownership from day one, designing Lafiya’s end-to-end evaluation systems, running internal assessments, and ensuring insights shape both strategy and operations.
The fellowship is structured as a pathway to a long-term role as an M&E Specialist, either remote or in-country. After the six months, compensation for the permanent role will be informed by your performance, contributions, and impact during the fellowship.
Key Responsibilities
- Redesign and strengthen Lafiya’s data systems to improve monitoring and evaluation
- Troubleshoot data quality issues and develop practical, lasting solutions
- Design and run evaluations (A/B tests, quasi-experiments, internal assessments)
- Share insights in clear, actionable formats for use in strategic decisions
- Train and support field teams to collect and interpret data effectively
- Contribute to programme design by setting indicators and building theories of change
- Turn evaluation results into tools for learning and growth across the team
- Keep the organisation focused on what matters by asking the right questions
What We’re Looking For
We value critical thinkers and problem-solvers over specific years of experience. This role is for someone eager to lead Lafiya’s M&E strategy with a hands-on, learning-first approach.
Requirements
- Educational background in public health, economics, data science, or related fields is helpful
- A strong desire to use evidence to improve access to contraception
- Ability to design M&E systems that are practical and useful
- Experience with evaluation methods (e.g. randomised trials, sampling plans, mixed methods)
- Ability to work with both quantitative and qualitative data
- Familiarity with tools like Google Sheets, R, Stata, SurveyCTO, or CommCare
- Strong communication skills—able to present findings clearly to different audiences
- Willingness to work closely with field teams and senior leaders
- Resilience, curiosity, and humility in facing challenges
