Position Title: Senior Dairy Productivity Advisor

Project Name: Building Precision Dairy Models in Nigeria (BuPreDMiN)

Reports To: Senior Program Manager

Role Overview

As the Senior Dairy Productivity Advisor, you will lead and support a team of Dairy Productivity Advisors. Your role will focus on building the capacity of smallholder herders to sustainably increase the quality and quantity of fresh milk production. You will also play a key role in planning and overseeing the execution of dairy development strategies in collaboration with project teams and stakeholders.

About the BuPreDMiN Project

The BuPreDMiN project is designed to establish a precision-based, sustainable dairy value chain in Nigeria within four years. It aims to improve farmer incomes, increase resilience, and reduce the environmental footprint of dairy farming.

Key Responsibilities

Project Inception Phase

  • Coordinate the enrollment of smallholder herders into the Danone dairy supply chain.
  • Collaborate with the Gender and Youth Manager and M&E team to define and review gender-focused KPIs.
  • Draft job descriptions for local community trainers and support recruitment efforts.
  • Design frameworks to help Dairy Productivity Advisors organize self-help groups for training and milk aggregation.

Project Implementation Phase

  • Define and guide the responsibilities of Dairy Productivity Advisors in line with project goals.
  • Support the team in expanding herder enrollment and ensuring value chain integration.
  • Train advisors and local trainers on dairy business best practices.
  • Lead adaptive management efforts to improve team effectiveness.
  • Partner with the MCC Manager to address milk quality and quantity issues through tailored training.
  • Build partnerships with financial institutions and input providers to close gaps in access and productivity.
  • Organize regular town hall meetings to address issues with herders and maintain engagement.
  • Assist the M&E team with surveys, data collection, success stories, and quality assurance.
  • Contribute to internal and donor reporting and maintain detailed documentation of field activities.
  • Develop and update risk mitigation plans.
  • Represent TechnoServe at official meetings and with stakeholders.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as the program evolves.
Required Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, Agribusiness, Animal Science, or related fields with a minimum of 5 years’ experience, including 3 years in the livestock sector in Western Nigeria.

OR
Master’s Degree in the same fields with at least 3 years of experience, including 2 years focused on livestock value chains.

A strong understanding of Nigeria’s dairy value chain is essential.

Skills and Competencies
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to engage with community leaders and local influencers
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Skilled in negotiation, training, and knowledge transfer
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with Appsheet or similar tools is a plus
Languages Required
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Fluency in Yoruba
  • Hausa and Fulfulde are added advantages
Travel Requirement

Up to 40% travel across Ogun, Osun, and Oyo States
