Job Overview

OPEC is currently inviting applications for the position of Senior Research Analyst within the Research Division – Environmental Matters Department, located at its headquarters in Vienna, Austria.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced economist to contribute to the analysis of global trade, climate change, and sustainable development, all crucial to OPEC’s mission and the future of the energy sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on trade, climate change, and sustainability issues relevant to OPEC Member Countries.
  • Analyze international trade relations and environmental economic developments affecting the organization’s strategic interests.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration among Member Countries on international negotiation policies.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations, and represent OPEC at internal and global forums.
  • Collect and interpret data related to international trade, environmental policies, and emerging economic trends.
  • Build and maintain a network of experts from Member Countries on multilateral trade and environmental agreements.
  • Assist in organizing expert workshops and seminars.
  • Perform additional tasks as required by the department.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • A university degree in Economics or related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience with a bachelor’s degree, or 8 years with a master’s or higher.
  • Strong foundation in development economics, international economics, and climate change policy.
  • Proficiency in economic research, trade policy, and sustainability issues.
  • Knowledge of econometrics and quantitative techniques is an added advantage.
