Position: Technical Lead – Linux
Location: 100% Remote (Nigeria-based applicants encouraged)
Type: Full-time, Contract
About the Role
As our Technical Lead for Linux projects, you will initiate and develop a secure, user-friendly Linux operating system. This project will explore modern technologies such as Wayland, MicroVMs, and principles of system immutability, aiming for compatibility across a wide range of devices from desktops to wearable tech. Security is a top priority, targeting standards comparable to Qubes OS. The role requires hands-on technical leadership from initial design through deployment and team recruitment.
Responsibilities
Lead and mentor a distributed team of Linux developers with a focus on kernel and open source practices
Design and implement the operating system’s core components for security, performance, and reliability
Collaborate with hardware and cybersecurity teams to ensure full compatibility and robust integration
Work closely with project managers to define technical roadmaps, prioritize deliverables, and assess risks
Guide the project from its initial phase, facilitating recruitment and open source community participation
Review code and architecture for stability, performance, and hardware support
Stay current with Linux advancements, adopting new innovations where applicable
Requirements
Proven experience leading and mentoring Linux development teams
Expertise in kernel development, open source workflows, and system security
Strong background in designing and implementing operating system components
Experience collaborating on projects that span hardware and security integration
Excellent English communication skills
Familiarity with virtualization, system immutability, and cross-device compatibility is highly valued
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
Relevant industry certifications or demonstrable experience in complex Linux environments
Previous work with open source communities and international remote teams is a plus
