Position: Technical Lead – Linux

Location: 100% Remote (Nigeria-based applicants encouraged)

Type: Full-time, Contract

About the Role

As our Technical Lead for Linux projects, you will initiate and develop a secure, user-friendly Linux operating system. This project will explore modern technologies such as Wayland, MicroVMs, and principles of system immutability, aiming for compatibility across a wide range of devices from desktops to wearable tech. Security is a top priority, targeting standards comparable to Qubes OS. The role requires hands-on technical leadership from initial design through deployment and team recruitment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a distributed team of Linux developers with a focus on kernel and open source practices

• Design and implement the operating system’s core components for security, performance, and reliability

• Collaborate with hardware and cybersecurity teams to ensure full compatibility and robust integration

• Work closely with project managers to define technical roadmaps, prioritize deliverables, and assess risks

• Guide the project from its initial phase, facilitating recruitment and open source community participation

• Review code and architecture for stability, performance, and hardware support

• Stay current with Linux advancements, adopting new innovations where applicable

Requirements

• Proven experience leading and mentoring Linux development teams

• Expertise in kernel development, open source workflows, and system security

• Strong background in designing and implementing operating system components

• Experience collaborating on projects that span hardware and security integration

• Excellent English communication skills

• Familiarity with virtualization, system immutability, and cross-device compatibility is highly valued

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field

• Relevant industry certifications or demonstrable experience in complex Linux environments

• Previous work with open source communities and international remote teams is a plus
