Role Overview

The Assistant Maintenance Manager supports the Maintenance Manager in planning, coordinating, and supervising maintenance activities across the automobile manufacturing plant. The role ensures that production equipment, utilities, and facilities operate efficiently, safely, and with minimal downtime, while contributing to preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, team supervision, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Planning and Execution

  • Assist in developing and implementing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance schedules.

  • Monitor equipment performance and ensure timely servicing and repairs.

  • Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of equipment breakdowns.

Equipment and Plant Support

  • Oversee maintenance of production lines, assembly equipment, CNC machines, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, paint booths, and workshop tools.

  • Support maintenance of utilities including power supply systems, generators, compressors, HVAC, and water systems.

  • Ensure calibration and servicing of critical automotive manufacturing equipment.

Team Supervision and Coordination

  • Supervise maintenance technicians, electricians, mechanics, and contractors.

  • Allocate tasks, monitor execution, and ensure compliance with safety procedures.

  • Support training and skill development of maintenance personnel.

Spare Parts and Inventory Control

  • Assist in managing spare parts, tools, and maintenance consumables.

  • Coordinate with procurement and stores to ensure availability of critical spares.

  • Support maintenance cost control and waste reduction initiatives.

Safety, Quality, and Compliance

  • Enforce HSE policies and promote safe work practices.

  • Support compliance with ISO, IATF, and other regulatory standards and audits.

  • Participate in accident investigations and implementation of corrective actions.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Maintain maintenance logs, job cards, and equipment history records.

  • Prepare daily and monthly maintenance reports for management.

  • Provide recommendations for equipment improvement and replacement.

Support to Maintenance Manager

  • Act on behalf of the Maintenance Manager when required.

  • Assist in budgeting, shutdown maintenance planning, and overhaul coordination.

  • Support continuous improvement and reliability initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills

Educational Qualifications

  • HND or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.

  • Professional certifications such as COREN, CMRP, PMP, or maintenance-related courses are an added advantage.

Experience

  • 5 to 8 years of experience in maintenance operations, with at least 3 years in an automobile manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Hands-on experience with automotive production equipment and plant utilities.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

  • Experience with preventive maintenance systems and breakdown management.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.

  • Proficiency in CMMS or ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Good understanding of safety and quality standards.

Soft Skills

  • Strong leadership and team coordination abilities.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective communication and reporting skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight production deadlines.

  • High level of discipline, accountability, and attention to detail.

Salary

N250,000 – N300,000 monthly
