Project Overview
Northeast Nigeria is experiencing a severe humanitarian crisis, with large numbers of internally displaced persons who are in urgent need of medical and nutritional support. FHI 360 has been active in the region’s humanitarian response for over five years. We are looking to expand our efforts with new and existing projects and seek a passionate and qualified Assistant Technical Officer in Primary Health Care to join our team.

Job Summary
The Assistant Technical Officer (PHC) will be responsible for delivering quality medical care to patients at the health facility. This role includes assessing patients, diagnosing illnesses, prescribing treatments, and recommending follow-up care. The officer will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of effective and compassionate health services.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide accurate diagnosis and treatment for patients in primary healthcare settings
• Work collaboratively with the medical team to offer quality care to vulnerable populations
• Refer patients for specialized treatment when necessary
• Conduct health education sessions with patients and the community
• Support outreach and community health programs
• Keep detailed records of patient care and treatment
• Ensure infection prevention and control standards are consistently met
• Collect and report data to support monitoring and evaluation activities
• Participate in continuous professional development and on-the-job training
• Prepare and submit timely reports
• Carry out additional duties as assigned

Required Skills and Attributes

• Strong clinical knowledge of public and humanitarian health systems in Nigeria
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency in English and Hausa
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Team-oriented with strong collaboration skills
• Computer proficiency
• Willingness to travel up to 25 percent of the time

Qualifications

• MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification
• Valid practicing license required
• 1 to 3 years of experience in a clinical or humanitarian setting
• Experience working with NGOs or in emergency response is highly desirable
• Familiarity with Nigerian public sector health systems is an advantage
