Job Title: Civic Education Teacher

Location: Abuja (FCT)

Employment Type: Full-time

Job Purpose

The Civic Education Teacher will equip students with the knowledge, skills, and values required to become responsible and patriotic citizens. The role involves preparing learners for internal and external examinations while encouraging active participation in civic and community life.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

• Plan and deliver engaging Civic Education lessons aligned with the national curriculum (WAEC/NECO or equivalent)
• Develop lesson notes and resources that promote critical thinking, active participation, and value-based learning
• Use real-life examples, debates, discussions, and role-plays to explain rights, responsibilities, and governance
• Adapt teaching approaches to suit different learning needs

Assessment and Evaluation

• Design and grade assignments, projects, and examinations
• Provide constructive feedback and keep parents or guardians updated on progress
• Maintain accurate student performance records

Student Development

• Encourage civic responsibility, ethical behavior, and respect for diversity
• Support student participation in clubs, leadership roles, debates, and community service activities
• Mentor students preparing for civic-related competitions and public speaking events

Professional and Administrative Duties

• Maintain discipline in line with school policies
• Take part in staff meetings, training, and curriculum development sessions
• Work with colleagues to promote civic values across all subjects
• Stay informed on governance, civic issues, and national policies to enrich classroom teaching

Qualifications and Skills

Education and Certification

• Bachelor’s degree in Civic Education, Political Science, Social Studies, Law, or related field
• B.Ed, PGDE, or equivalent teaching qualification preferred
• TRCN certification or equivalent is an added advantage

Experience

• Minimum of 2 to 3 years teaching Civic Education or related subjects at secondary school level
• Experience preparing students for WAEC/NECO exams preferred
• Experience guiding students in leadership or community service is an added advantage

Skills and Competencies

• Strong understanding of governance, Nigerian constitution, and civic responsibilities
• Ability to inspire patriotism and ethical values in students
• Excellent communication and classroom engagement skills
• ICT proficiency for modern teaching and learning methods
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Salary

N180,000 – N210,000 per month
