Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Assistant Librarian to manage and grow our legal information resources. This role ensures that our legal professionals have access to accurate and up-to-date research tools and materials. The ideal candidate will support legal research, maintain physical and digital collections, and assist with training and library operations.

Key Responsibilities

Collection Development and Management

  • Evaluate the firm’s information needs and maintain a policy for growing the library collection
  • Acquire, organize, and manage legal materials, including case law, statutes, journals, textbooks, and digital databases
  • Manage subscriptions and vendor relationships for legal databases and tools
  • Catalog, classify, and index all library materials according to standard library practices
  • Maintain and audit physical collections, and recommend removal of outdated resources

Information Services and Research Support

  • Provide legal research support using both print and digital resources
  • Create and update research guides for internal use
  • Monitor legal updates relevant to the firm’s practice areas
  • Handle research requests efficiently and professionally

Library Operations and Administration

  • Develop policies for library use and procedures
  • Oversee daily operations including circulation and interlibrary loans
  • Ensure the library is organized, accessible, and well-maintained
  • Prepare usage reports and performance summaries

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science
  • Registered member of the Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN)
  • A master’s degree or additional qualifications is a plus
  • At least 3 years of experience in a law firm library environment
  • Skilled in legal research databases (LawPavilion, LexisNexis, Westlaw) and online search tools
  • Proficient in library management systems and Microsoft Office
  • Strong understanding of Nigerian legal resources and research methods
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
