We are currently recruiting for the position of Engineering Manager in Lagos.

Position Overview
This position is a general track for first-level engineering management at Canonical. We are dedicated to transforming the tech sector through open-source software by making it easier, more reliable, and secure for deployment and development. Our goal is to be the provider of ‘most software to most companies.’ To achieve this, we carefully select engineers who are motivated to take open source to the next level.
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead teams to accomplish what they never thought possible while fostering a culture of growth and development. We believe that Engineering Managers should be strong developers, capable of reviewing code and software design specifications, but most importantly, they should focus on shaping the team’s direction, focus, and delivery.
At Canonical, we invest in the growth of our management skills and train engineers who aspire to take on leadership roles. Engineering Managers are responsible for line management, career guidance, and driving collaboration across teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of engineers, ranging from graduate to senior-level
- Work remotely within a single time zone or occasionally two
- Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback
- Measure and track team health and performance
- Implement disciplined engineering processes and maintain high standards
- Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers
- Promote excellent engineering practices and organizational standards
- Collaborate with other leaders and contribute to the leadership team
- Drive progress on team goals and projects, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality results
Requirements
- Exceptional academic track record, including high school and university degrees
- Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling alternative career path
- Proven experience in leadership and team management
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- A passion for developing and growing people, with a track record of success
- Solid experience in coaching and mentoring software developers
- Ability to deliver organized, high-quality results within timelines
- Experience working in an agile development environment
- Advanced expertise in your domain of expertise
- A continuous drive for learning and personal development
- Ability to build trust and relationships within the team and with stakeholders
- Willingness to travel twice a year for company events
