We are currently hiring for the role below:
Job Title: Fiction Writer (Romance/Drama – Long-Form Story Continuation)
Location: Remote (Preference for Nigeria-based writers)
Job Type: Freelance / Contract
Monthly Word Target: 50,000 words
About the Role
Barbell Publishing is seeking a skilled fiction writer to continue an ongoing romance/drama series. You will receive an outline, previous chapters, and character profiles to guide your work. The goal is to maintain the story’s established voice while adding emotional richness, engaging dialogue, and captivating plot development.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Write a minimum of 50,000 original words per month (around 12,000–13,000 words weekly)
- Continue the story following a provided outline and character arcs
- Create emotionally engaging chapters with great pacing and strong cliffhangers
- Apply feedback and revise drafts as needed
- Collaborate regularly with the lead editor and meet weekly deadlines
What We’re Looking For
Preferred Qualifications:
- A degree in English, Literature, Creative Writing, or related fields is a plus
- A strong fiction writing portfolio, especially in romance or drama
Experience:
- At least 6 months to 1 year of creative writing experience
- Prior work on serialized or long-form stories is a bonus
Key Skills:
- Excellent storytelling and plot development abilities
- Strong grasp of written English, grammar, dialogue, and tone
- Ability to maintain consistent character voice
- Willingness to take feedback and improve draft quality
Additional Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must own a laptop or writing device
- Must be responsive via email or WhatsApp
- Must work independently and consistently meet weekly goals
- Must agree to sign a content ownership and non-disclosure agreement
Compensation
- N100,000 monthly for hitting the 50,000-word target
- Opportunities for higher pay in future projects based on performance
- Long-term writing roles available for top-performing candidates
