Position Overview
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Captain to join our team in Port Harcourt. This role is critical to ensuring the safe navigation and operation of our vessel while maintaining compliance with maritime safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely navigate and pilot the vessel.
- Plan voyages and plot charts for efficient navigation.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of all navigational and safety equipment on board.
- Maintain accurate logbooks to document vessel operations and events offshore.
- Monitor radar and radio systems, following International Maritime Organization (IMO) bridge procedures.
- Perform routine vessel maintenance and conduct regular safety checks.
- Foster teamwork and effective communication among crew members.
- Keep detailed troubleshooting logs for navigation equipment to improve maintenance efficiency.
- Ensure logs reflect the accurate status of equipment and operations.
- Adhere to the Safety Management System for safe and efficient operations.
- Manage shipboard activities effectively and maintain strong communication with all personnel.
- Minimize equipment failure and ensure readiness of all navigation tools before departure.
- Conduct onboard safety drills with the Officer in Charge (OiC) and notify clients accordingly.
- Update and prepare nautical charts as needed.
- Submit a comprehensive voyage report after each trip, covering navigation, safety, accommodation, and deck operations.
Required Qualifications and Certifications
- NIMASA Master REG II/3 or Chief Mate II/2 Certification
- Certificate of Competency
- National Diploma or WAEC
- Associate certificate from a NIMASA-approved maritime institution
- STCW Basic Mandatory Certificates
- Valid NIMASA Medical Certificate
- Discharge Book
- Yellow Book
- International Passport
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in marine vessel operations

- Command and control of ship operations
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Proficient in shipboard management and documentation
- Strong focus on safety and compliance
- Ability to write detailed operational reports
- Analytical thinking and sound judgment
- IT skills are an added advantage
