Role Overview
We are hiring a skilled and passionate Igbo Language Teacher to join our growing academic team. This role involves teaching students how to read, write, and speak Igbo, while also introducing them to the cultural heritage of the Igbo people. The ideal candidate should be creative, culturally informed, and committed to helping children develop confidence in language learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver structured Igbo language lessons suitable for primary school students
- Teach Igbo grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and writing
- Introduce students to Igbo culture, history, proverbs, and traditional values
- Use creative teaching tools such as storytelling, songs, and drama to enhance learning
- Track student progress through assignments, oral presentations, and assessments
- Encourage students to practice speaking Igbo regularly
- Foster a supportive and engaging classroom environment
- Work closely with fellow teachers and parents to ensure student development
- Stay current with best practices in language education
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics, Igbo Studies, or a related discipline
- Strong fluency in spoken and written Igbo
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching the Igbo language
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills
- Passion for promoting and preserving indigenous language and culture
