The Taimaka Project is a highly impactful nonprofit organization dedicated to improving pediatric malnutrition treatment. We implement community-based programs to combat severe acute malnutrition in children, working in Gombe State, Nigeria. Our mission is to deliver effective, life-saving solutions to the world’s most vulnerable children.

Job Title: Nutrition Survey Enumerator
Location: Gombe State (Funakaye LGA and/or Deba LGA)
Duration: Temporary, Short-term (3-5 days of training, followed by 5-10 days of data collection)
Reports to: Survey Supervisor

Job Overview
The Nutrition Survey Enumerator will play a vital role in the research team tasked with evaluating the impact of our Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) programs. The primary responsibility is to collect high-quality data to assess the prevalence of malnutrition, mortality rates, and the effectiveness of the CMAM treatment. This data will be used for cost-effectiveness analysis and program improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete 5-day in-person training in Gombe to learn research survey techniques (SMART or SQUEAC).
• Explain the study to household members and maintain high participation levels during data collection.
• Collect data on children’s nutritional status (height, MUAC, weight), and gather information on household conditions, child illness, mortality, and feeding practices.
• Work in remote and hard-to-reach areas in Funakaye and Deba LGAs.
• Ensure proper use and calibration of anthropometric equipment.
• Obtain informed consent from participants following ethical guidelines.
• Ensure the collection of accurate, complete data and adhere to survey protocols.
• Maintain confidentiality and accurately document each household visit using ODK forms.
• Communicate any challenges or issues during data collection to the line manager.

Qualifications & Skills

• Minimum of a Secondary School Certificate (SSCE); post-secondary education in community health or a related field is preferred.
• Willingness and ability to visit households in remote areas while carrying measurement equipment.
• Previous experience in nutrition surveys or research studies with child and household data collection using ODK or KoboToolbox is preferred.
• Strong experience in anthropometric measurements (MUAC, height/length, weight) is highly preferred.
• Ability to write comprehensive notes in Hausa or English is required.
• Fluency in Hausa is essential; proficiency in Fulfulde (spoken) is an advantage.
• Attention to detail and high standards of data quality are required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be willing to learn and work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
• Female candidates are preferred.
• Flexibility to work on weekends is required.

Salary
Daily stipend, contingent upon satisfactory completion of training.
