About the Role
Join eHA’s Global Health Monitoring (GHM) team and contribute to transforming cold chain management through smart solutions like remote temperature monitoring. As a Senior Data Engineer, you’ll design and build data pipelines that power real-time decision-making and insights. Your work will directly support the development of reliable health systems in dynamic and challenging environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build a scalable data warehouse from scratch to support data science and analytics efforts
• Own and maintain robust data pipelines that connect multiple sources, including IoT and software vendors
• Collaborate with the backend team to manage and optimize data integrations for systems with unique requirements
• Oversee Databricks infrastructure for performance, security, and scalability
• Develop and automate ETL processes for both structured and unstructured data
• Integrate location-based data through geo-tagging workflows
• Ensure all systems follow data governance, security protocols, and regulatory standards
• Keep the team updated with emerging tools and trends in data engineering
• Create and manage a data dictionary to maintain clarity and consistency in the data warehouse
• Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, promoting high standards in quality, performance, and collaboration
• Follow eHealth Africa’s Code of Conduct and uphold professional ethics

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in data engineering roles
• Minimum of 3 years building cloud-based data solutions, preferably with AWS or GCP
• At least 1 year in a leadership or management role within engineering teams
• Strong skills in Databricks, Python, SQL, and relational databases
• Experience with ETL processes, data modeling, and distributed computing technologies
• Familiarity with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Deep knowledge of data architecture, including data warehouse design and pipeline development
• Strong experience in cloud platforms like AWS or GCP
• Proficient in managing large-scale ETL processes and data workflows
• Skilled in Python, SQL, and managing data in relational databases
• Familiarity with Hadoop, Spark, EMR, and DAG tools for pipeline orchestration
• Strong understanding of data governance, quality, and system integrity
• Confident communicator, especially when translating technical information for non-technical teams
• A natural team leader who can inspire collaboration and uphold best practices

Bonus Skills

• Experience working with IoT data and integrating it into data systems
• Exposure to NoSQL databases
• Familiarity with visualization tools such as Looker or Tableau
• Background in global health, supply chain, or finance
• Understanding of data science or analytics workflows
