The answer is yes, you can get an Opay POS machine for free and become an agent. Remember, Opay is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as a mobile money operator (MMO) and has the approval to operate as an international money transfer agent facilitating remittances to B2B, B2P, and P2P in Nigeria.

How to register as an Opay agent
To become an Opay agent, you must have had an Opay account (the Opay App). After that, upgrade your account from KYC level 1 to level 3 by providing your real bank account details, such as your BVN, date of birth, gender status, and state of residence.
How to register an Opay account
- Navigate to the Google Play Store.
- Search for an Opay app
- Download and install
- Follow the instructions displayed on the app and register your account.
NOTE: It’s not necessarily that you provide your BVN, but you must provide one of your valid identifications. BVN is only necessary when considering becoming an agent or upgrading your account.

- Log in to your account.
- On the app page, go to “ME.”
- Tap the picture symbol to view all your account details.
- Upgrade to Level 3.
- Provide a picture of yours, a valid identification card, a utility bill, preferably a PHCN bill, and your BVN.
- Click Submit.
NOTE: Depending on the validity of the information you provided, it may take the Opay team 1-3 days to review your KYC before approving or declining it. You will be notified via email or SMS once you have approved.
How to Make Your Profile a Merchant
Once your request has been approved, you need to switch your account from profile to merchant.
- On the app page, click on “Me.”
- Tap the image icon to view account details.
- Upgrade by tapping “Upgrade to Merchant.”
- Provide your business information and other required information.
- To complete your request, tap Upgrade.
NOTE: Your request to upgrade to a merchant account will also be reviewed by the Opay Team before your account can be upgraded to a merchant account.
If your account has been upgraded to KYC level 3 and your profile has been changed to merchant, the next step is to apply for merchant status.
How to apply for merchant accounts on Opay
- Log in to your Opay account.
- Select the “Merchant Apply” option.
- Fill in all the necessary information.
- Provide your “transaction history” for the past three months.
- Provide other information about yourself, including a valid identification card and a snapshot of your business station.
- Click “submit” for review by the Opay Team. Once approved/declined, you will be notified.
