Wema Bank is looking to hire a skilled and motivated Attorney to join our Documentation and Advisory team. This exciting opportunity is ideal for a junior-level attorney with a passion for detailed legal work in a fast-paced environment. In this role, you will play a key part in perfecting the bank’s securities and properties, reviewing documentation for credit requests, and collaborating with our business teams on legal matters.
As a Loan Documentation & Perfection Personnel, you will work closely with the Team Lead, Documentation and Legal Advisory, and contribute to the efficient and effective documentation process of credit transactions. This full-time position is based at our Headquarters in Marina, Lagos.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the Bank’s Perfection Portfolio:
Ensure thorough knowledge and application of land-related laws, company laws, and regulations. Oversee the registration procedures and documentation required for the perfection of various security types. - Reviewing Credit Documentation:
Review loan disbursement requests to ensure compliance with the bank’s credit policies and document structure. Apply your knowledge of different financial transactions to ensure proper documentation. - Providing Legal Advice:
Offer legal advice to internal business partners on transactions, regulatory compliance, and credit policies to ensure sound decision-making. - Coordination with External Solicitors:
Manage the outsourcing of instructions to external solicitors for the perfection of the bank’s interest in securities and properties. Monitor and coordinate the performance of solicitors handling perfection briefs. - Corporate and Property Searches:
Conduct corporate and property searches as required for legal purposes.
Qualifications
- Minimum of Second Class (Upper Division) in Law from an accredited university.
- Professional Qualification/License to practice Law in Nigeria.
- Master’s degree or a relevant professional qualification will be an advantage.
- Strong understanding of Nigerian laws, regulations, and the banking industry.
- Ability to independently manage tasks with high attention to detail and the ability to lead a team.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Required Skills
- In-depth understanding of legal analysis, regulatory frameworks, and the application of laws.
- Proficiency in drafting, reviewing, and providing legal opinions on contracts and documents.
- Ability to independently manage cases and legal strategies with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills to explain complex legal matters to non-legal professionals.
